At a luncheon held at the Medical College on May 15, members of the Menschel and Paduano families were honored in recognition of a pledge to establish the Nancy C. Paduano Professorship in Pediatrics through the Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation.
Special guests of honor were Daniel and Nancy Paduano, Richard and Ronay Menschel, and Robert and Joyce Menschel. Representing the Medical College were Dean Antonio Gotto; Harold Tanner, chairman of Cornell University's Board of Trustees; and Dr. Maria New, chairman of the Department of Pediatrics and pediatrician-in-chief at the NewYork Weill Cornell Medical Center. Also in attendance were Dr. David Skinner, president emeritus of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, and his wife, Ellie Skinner, and Weill Cornell faculty.
Establishment of the Nancy C. Paduano Professorship in Pediatrics will serve as a reminder of the high level of dedication and commitment that the two families—the Menschels and the Paduanos—have shown to the Department of Pediatrics over several decades. They are generous supporters of the institution, and their combined gift will provide the support essential for further growth and development in academic medicine, particularly in the enrichment of the Department of Pediatrics.
The Menschel family has an outstanding record in philanthropy especially in medicine and health care. Ronay Menschel, a graduate of Cornell University, serves as a university trustee and on numerous committees. Daniel and Nancy Paduano are also dedicated supporters of the Medical Center. In addition to their volunteer service on the NewYork Weill Cornell Council, Nancy Paduano is an advocate for children's health through various volunteer and fund-raising activities, and is personally spearheading the effort to bring the Clown Care program to NewYork Weill Cornell's Department of Pediatrics.
Endowed professorships are vital in allowing the Medical College's faculty to continue to address the critical teaching, research and clinical challenges of medicine. The Nancy C. Paduano Professorship in Pediatrics will endow a distinguished faculty member who will continue the exemplary work of the department.
