Dermatology Department Hosts Stubenbord Visiting Professor: Dr. Stephen Katz, Director of NIAMSD (May 21-22)

Dr. Stephen Katz, director of the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, will be the guest of the Department of Dermatology as the William D. Stubenbord Visiting Professor at Weill Cornell, May 21–22.

He will present the featured Stubenbord Lecture on Monday, May 21, at 4 p.m. in Weill Auditorium on the topic "The Skin Immune System: Why Study It?" On Tuesday, May 22, he will present a lecture on "How Advances in the Dermatologic Sciences Translate to Improved Patient Care" at 3:30 p.m. in F-1190 (psychiatry conference room).

Dr. Katz is noted for his studies on immunology and the skin. His studies have demonstrated that skin is an important component of the immune system both in its normal function and as a target in immunologically mediated disease. In addition to studying Langerhans cells and epidermally derived cytokines, Dr. Katz and his associates have contributed new knowledge about inherited and acquired blistering skin diseases.

During his visit, Dr. Katz will also participate in dermatology clinic rounds, meet with residents and medical students, visit scientists and laboratories at Weill Cornell, HSS, MSKCC, and RU, and attend the annual dinner of the New York Dermatological Society.
