At a luncheon held on April 2, the Medical College honored Dr. Richard Silver, professor of medicine, upon the establishment of the Richard T. Silver Distinguished Professorship in Medical Oncology. In attendance were Dr. Silver and his wife, Barbara; members of the Silver family; Dr. Antonio Gotto, dean of the Medical College, and Anita Gotto; Harold Tanner, chairman of Cornell University's Board of Trustees; Sanford Ehrenkranz, a member of Weill Cornell's Board of Overseers; Stephen Weiss, trustee chairman emeritus at Cornell; and Weill Cornell faculty.
The Silver Distinguished Professorship recognizes Dr. Silver's loyalty to Cornell, his many years of devoted patient care, and his extraordinary capacity to inspire as well as instruct. The Silver Professorship will ensure that leading members of the Medical College faculty are able to continue to address the critical teaching, research, and clinical challenges of medicine. Dr. Silver's commitment and generosity to medicine will be recognized for generations.
A 1950 graduate of Cornell University and a 1953 graduate of Cornell University Medical College, Dr. Silver has been a dedicated supporter and leader of Cornell throughout his career. He is currently a member of the Cornell University Council and is vice president and medical director of the Cancer Research and Treatment Fund.
