'Cancer Biology: From Research to Recovery' Is Focus of Hopkins Foundation Workshop for Journalists (June 21)

A hands-on workshop for journalists focusing on the theme "Cancer Biology: From Research to Recovery" will be held at Weill Cornell on Thursday, June 21. The all-day workshop, which will include hands-on activities in protein identification and manipulation, is the 7th Annual Hopkins Foundation Workshop/Hands-On Science for Journalists program co-sponored by the Josephine L. Hopkins Foundation, Cornell University and Weill Cornell.

The keynote address will be presented by Sandra Steingraber, of Cornell University's Center for the Environment, who is author of the book "Living Downstream: An Ecologist Looks at Cancer and the Environment." Her topic will be "Cancer and Chemicals: A Compelling Indictment."

Other speakers include Ron Elber (Cornell University) on using computational genomics to find clues to cancer; Dr. Benoit Roux (Weill Cornell) on structural approaches to cancer biology; Dr. Andrew Dannenberg (Weill Cornell) on COX-2 inhibitors and the use of food as cancer medicine; and Kari Alitalo (Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research) on angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis.
