The Medical College has created a new Division of Medical Ethics in the Departments of Public Health and Medicine. Dr. Joseph Fins, who became the first director of medical ethics at The New York Hospital in 1994, will also serve as chief of the new interdepartmental Division of Medical Ethics. Dr. Fins is associate professor of medicine and associate professor of medicine in psychiatry and will also be joining the faculty in the Department of Public Health.

"The establishment of the Division of Medical Ethics reflects the growing national interest in such bioethical health policy issues as cloning, physician-assisted suicide, managed care, and the regulation of clinical research in genetic engineering and the neurosciences," said Dr. Antonio Gotto, dean of the Medical College.
