WCM placeholder

Responding to widespread public interest in alternative medicine, Weill Cornell has created a Center for Complementary and Integrative Medicine.

Dr. Mary Charlson, the William T. Foley Distinguished Professor in Medicine and chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine, is the executive director of the new facility, which is staffed with specialists in oncology, cardiology, gastroenterology and internal medicine. Dr. Mitchell Gaynor, clinical assistant professor of medicine, serves as director.

In addition to its clinical practice, located at 428 E. 72nd St., the center conducts basic research and collaborates with Cornell's scientists in Ithaca. It also participates in professional medical education and conducts community epidemiology studies. Among the center's objectives is to evaluate and test the effectiveness of various complementary treatments and products and to disseminate its findings to both professionals and the public.
