New Appointments for Weill Cornell Faculty

Dr. Brij B. Saxena, professor of endocrinology in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, has been named the Harold and Percy Uris Professor of Reproductive Biology. A pioneering researcher on the endocrine regulation of the menstrual cycle, Dr. Saxena developed the first early and reliable pregnancy test. His current research focuses on the development of an immunocontraceptive, which may result in a more foolproof method of family planning. Dr. Saxena has been a member of the faculty since 1966.

Dr. Ira M. Jacobson, chief of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the Department of Medicine and a member of the faculty since 1984, has been named the Vincent Astor Distinguished Professor in Clinical Medicine. An internationally renowned expert in hepatology and gastroenterology, Dr. Jacobson was instrumental in establishing the new Center for the Study of Hepatitis C, a partnership between Weill Cornell and The Rockefeller University.

Dr. Thomas J. Fahey III, associate professor of surgery, has been named a Frank Glenn Faculty Scholar in Surgery. A distinguished clinical surgeon and teacher who specializes in surgical endocrinology and oncology, Dr. Fahey is currently program director for the residency program in the Department of Surgery. A member of the faculty since 1996, he has previously served as site director for minimal access surgery.

Dr. Andrew Dannenberg, professor of medicine and surgery, has been named the First Henry R. Erle, M.D.–Roberts Family Professor of Medicine. A member of the faculty since 1988, Dr. Dannenberg has made major contributions to the understanding of the role of the inflammatory process in the development of cancer, as well as to the prevention of gastrointestinal and breast cancer.
