Center for Aging Research & Clinical Care Established

Dr. Mark Lachs

With an $8 million gift, Weill Cornell has established the Center for Aging Research and Clinical Care. Uniquely conceived in that it is intended to foster linkages among basic research in aging, clinical research in aging, and patient care, the Center has as its ultimate goal the improvement in the quality of life of older adults. The gift not only creates the new Center for Aging but the necessary funding to recruit the key neuroscience faculty who will help support the Center's efforts specifically and Weill Cornell's neuroscience research efforts generally. Directed by Dr. Mark Lachs, co-chief of Weill Cornell's Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology, the Center's activities will focus on enhancing and connecting three major areas of endeavor at the Medical College: basic research in diseases related to aging, clinical and health services research in gerontology, and aging education programs for lay and scientific audiences. This multidisciplinary and collaborative effort involves not only the programs and departments within the Medical College but includes programs of Cornell University in Ithaca as well.
