Dr. Joseph Fins, the E. William Davis, Jr., MD Professor of Medical Ethics and a professor of psychiatry, medicine, healthcare policy and research, and medical ethics in neurology, was elected to the Board International Neuroethics Society Board of Directors for a three-year term, effective March 1. The society is an interdisciplinary group of scholars, scientists, clinicians and other professionals who share an interest in the social, legal, ethical and policy implications of advances in neuroscience. It seeks to promote the development of the field through interdisciplinary and international research, education, outreach, and public engagement.

Dr. Rainu Kaushal, chair of the Department of Healthcare Policy and Research, the Frances and John L. Loeb Professor of Medical Informatics, and a professor of healthcare policy and research, and of medicine, was appointed to the National Patient-Centered Clinical Research Network Steering Committee as a member in January. An initiative of the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, the network is dedicated to improving the nation's capacity to conduct comparative effectiveness research by creating a large, highly representative network for conducting clinical outcomes research.

Dr. Subroto Paul, an associate professor of cardiothoracic surgery and of cardiothoracic surgery in healthcare policy and research, has been selected to participate in the American Association for Thoracic Surgery Leadership Program, which took place on April 24 in Seattle. Up to 20 surgeons are selected annually for this competitive program, which is designed to introduce new or potential future division chiefs to the administrative, interpersonal and mentoring skill necessary to serve in a leadership position within their institution and the surgical community at large. The American Association for Thoracic Surgery is an international organization comprised of more than 1,300 of the world's foremost cardiothoracic surgeons who have made significant contributions to the care and treatment of cardiothoracic disease.
