Awards and Honors

Dr. Erika Abramson, an assistant professor of pediatrics and of healthcare policy and research, was elected vice chair of the Association of Pediatric Program Directors' Research and Scholarship Taskforce in June for a two-year term. The association seeks to advance the art and science of pediatric education for the purpose of ensuring the health and well-being of children. The Research and Scholarship Taskforce furthers this mission by informing the association's leadership of ways research can be better supported for all members, and creating processes and procedures to make research and scholarship more accessible to all members.

Dr. Barbara Hempstead, senior associate dean for education, associate dean for faculty development and diversity, the O. Wayne Isom Professor of Medicine, and a professor of medicine and of neuroscience in the Feil Family Brain and Mind Research Institute, was elected on May 1 to the American Clinical and Climatological Association, an honorary society of academic clinicians who have demonstrated a high level of integrity and professionalism, as well as a desire to nurture warmth, diversity and friendship. The prestigious organization limits active membership to 250 physicians nationwide.

Dr. Stephen Lyman, an associate professor of healthcare policy and research, has been appointed to the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine's Scientific Committee and its Newsletter Committee, both for two-year terms. Additionally, Dr. Lyman was appointed statistical editor for the society's Journal of ISAKOS. All three appointments were effective June 1. The organization is an international society of surgeons established to advance the worldwide exchange and dissemination of education, research and patient care in arthroscopy, knee surgery and orthopaedic sports medicine.
