Awards and Honors

Dr. Tal Levy, an assistant professor of anesthesiology, was appointed to the American Society of Anesthesiologists' Committee on Pediatric Anesthesia, Committee on Patient Safety and Education, and the Committee on Young Physicians for a one-year term. The society is an educational, research and scientific association of physicians organized to raise and maintain the standards of the medical practice of anesthesiology to improve patient care. Each committee focuses on the goals of the society in a particular area.

Dr. Philip Li, an associate professor of research in urology and of research in reproductive medicine, received the Chinese Society of Andrology's Outstanding Contribution Award for 20 years of dedicated service during its annual meeting on Aug. 29. The award recognizes Dr. Li for his dedication to improving the standard of patient care in andrology and urology and his long standing support of the organization.

Dr. Fabrizio Michelassi, chairman of the Department of Surgery, the Lewis Atterbury Stimson Professor of Surgery, and a professor of surgery, gave the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract's Presidential Address during the World Congress of Surgery, which took place from Aug. 23 - Aug. 27 in Bangkok, Thailand. Dr. Michelassi's lecture was titled "Novel Surgical Strategies to Reduce Recurrence Rates in Crohn's Disease." Dr. Michelassi was also elected chairman of the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract's board for a one-year term. The society is committed to advancing the science and practice of surgery in the treatment of digestive diseases.

Dr. David Nissan, a senior clinical associate in psychiatry, received a 2015 Distinguished Housestaff Award from the NewYork Weill Cornell Medical Center Alumni Council. This award is presented annually to one member of the housestaff from each department for all-around excellence. Award recipients are selected by department chairs and residency program directors.
