Dr. Gerard Addonizio, professor of clinical psychiatry, has been awarded the American Psychiatric Association's 2012-2013 Irma Bland Award for Excellence in Teaching Residents for outstanding and sustaining contributions to resident education in psychiatry. The Association is the world's largest psychiatric organization.
Dr. Olivier Elemento, assistant professor of physiology and biophysics and assistant professor of computational genomics in computational biomedicine, received the 2013 Irma T. Hirschl Career Scientist Award, which supports talented biomedical scientists in their academic research careers. The award will provide Dr. Elemento with $35,000 in research funding for five years.
Dr. Joseph Fins, chief of the Division of Medical Ethics, the E. William Davis Jr., MD Professor of Medical Ethics, professor of medicine, public health and medicine in psychiatry, gave the 2013 Nancy Weaver Emerson Lecture Jan. 23, sponsored by the Trent Center for Bioethics, Humanities and History of Medicine at Duke University. The talk was entitled, "Neuroethics and the Minimally Conscious State Integrating Insights from Neuroimaging into Practice and Policy." In addition, Dr. Fins was appointed an international scientific advisory board member for DevNet, funded by the Canadian government.
Dr. Sibel Klimstra, associate professor of clinical psychiatry, and Dr. Joseph Damore, assistant professor of psychiatry, have been awarded the American Psychiatric Association's annual Nancy C. Roeske, M.D., Certificate of Recognition for Excellence in Medical Student Education for outstanding and sustaining contributions to medical student education.
Dr. Lisa Sombrotto, assistant professor of clinical psychiatry, won NewYork-Presbyterian's 2012 Patient Centered Care Physician Champion Award for Weill Cornell Medical Center. The award recognizes physicians who provide outstanding leadership and who inspire members of their team to provide excellent, compassionate and responsive care to patients and their families.
