Three trophies

Dr. Donald J. D’Amico, chair of the Israel Englander Department of Ophthalmology, was awarded the 2024 J. Donald M. Gass Award by the Retina Society. The award celebrates extraordinary contributions to the understanding of retinal disease and is one of the most prestigious in the field of retina. The award committee cited Dr. D’Amico’s career accomplishments in surgical innovation, mentoring of young retinal surgeons, research and scholarship as the basis for this honor.

Dr. Sanjay Patel, associate professor of pathology and laboratory medicine, was elected vice president of the New York Pathological Society. The society’s mission is to foster medical excellence through pathology and its related sciences.

Dr. Heather Yeo, associate professor of surgery, was elected trustee of the Society of Surgery of the Alimentary Tract (SSAT) at their 65th annual meeting. The SSAT is a global community leading the future of gastrointestinal surgery through innovation, research, advocacy and dissemination of knowledge to advance clinical excellence.
