Dr. Kirk Deitsch, professor of microbiology and immunology, and Dr. Kyu Rhee, professor of microbiology and immunology and of medicine, were elected as fellows of the American Academy of Microbiology. The academy, the honorific leadership group within the American Society for Microbiology, selects fellows annually based on their records of scientific achievement and original contributions that have advanced microbiology.
Dr. Bishoy Faltas, the Gellert Family-John P. Leonard, M.D. Research Scholar and assistant professor of medicine, was awarded the Hirschl Trust Career Scientist Award by the Irma T. Hirschl Trust. The program aims to support talented biomedical scientists committed to careers in academic research, and in particular those who exhibit an exceptional potential for high quality productive research.
Dr. Linnie Golightly, associate dean of diversity and inclusion and associate professor of clinical medicine, and Dr. Vivian Bea, section chief of breast surgical oncology at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital and assistant professor of surgery, were honored at the Annual Harlem Fine Arts Show’s “Salute to African Americans in Medicine: The Art of Healing.” The HFAS, the largest traveling African Diasporic art show in the United States, has partnered with the medical community to highlight the synergy between art and healing. Physicians were selected for their outstanding contributions to the medical field and their outreach to the African American community.
