Awards and Honors Across Weill Cornell Medicine: July 31, 2020

Dr. Laura C. Alonso, chief of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, was selected to serve as chairperson of the Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology Study Section of the NIH's Center for Scientific Review, for a two-year term which began July 1, 2020. Members are selected on the basis of their demonstrated competence and achievement in their scientific discipline as evidenced by the quality of research accomplishments, publications in scientific journals, and other significant scientific activities, achievements and honors.

Dr. Mary E. Choi, professor of medicine, was invited to serve as a member of the Pathobiology of Kidney Disease Study Section of the NIH's Center for Scientific Review, for a four-year term which began July 1, 2020. This invitation recognizes Dr. Choi’s significant contributions to the medical community with her research accomplishments, publications in scientific journals, and other significant activities, achievements and honors.

Dr. Lisa Newman, chief of the section of breast surgery, received the 2020 American Association of Cancer Research (AACR) Minorities in Cancer Research Jane Cooke Wright Lectureship on June 17, in recognition of her significant contributions to breast cancer disparities research. The lectureship is intended to recognize an outstanding scientist who has made meritorious contributions to the field of cancer research and who has, through leadership or by example, furthered the advancement of minority investigators in cancer research.
