Awards and Honors Across Weill Cornell Medicine – February 28, 2020

Dr. Elaine Barfield, assistant professor of pediatrics, received a Top Health Care Professionals Under 40 award from the National Medical Association (NMA) at their annual convention in June 2019. Dr. Barfield serves as the association’s region I scientific program chair and is the vice president for the Manhattan Central Medical Society, a local affiliate of the NMA.

Dr. Edgar Figueroa, director of student health and associate professor of family medicine in clinical medicine, has been appointed chair of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine’s Underrepresented in Medicine Initiative Oversight Committee. The committee is part of a three-year initiative undertaken by the society to increase diversity in faculty and leadership within the family medicine specialty.

Dr. Shari Lipner, associate professor of clinical dermatology, received the Journal of American Academy of Dermatology’s Editorial Mentorship Award in August. The editorial mentorship program is designed for young physicians who are interested in developing critical appraisal and editorial skills.
