Dr. Antonio Gotto Jr., dean emeritus, was named president-elect of the National Lipid Association during its annual scientific sessions on April 26-29, and he is scheduled to become president in a year. The mission of the association is to enhance the practice of lipid management in clinical medicine.

Dr. Donald J. D’Amico, chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology and the John Milton McLean Professor of Ophthalmology, received the Distinguished Clinical Achievement Award from the Harvard Medical School Department of Ophthalmology. The award is given annually to a physician who has demonstrated a lifetime of clinical achievements.

Dr. Ellen Scherl, director of the Jill Roberts Center for Inflammatory Bowel Disease, the Jill Roberts Professor of Inflammatory Bowel Disease and a professor of clinical medicine, has won the Distinguished Physician Award from the Long Island Chapter of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation for her dedication to patients with inflammatory bowel disease, especially in the Long Island community. The Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to curing Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, and to improving the quality of life of children and adults affected by these diseases.

Dr. Rahul Sharma, chief of the Division of Emergency Medicine, an associate professor of clinical medicine and of clinical healthcare policy and research, has been appointed to the Joint Commission’s standards review panel on direct-to-patient telehealth services in hospital and ambulatory settings. The Joint Commission accredits and certifies 21,000 healthcare organizations and programs in the United States.
