Dr. Laurie Gordon, an associate professor of clinical pediatrics, and Dr. Sara Kopple, an assistant professor of clinical pediatrics, won a Leonard P. Rome Community Access to Child Health (CATCH) Visiting Professorship Award from the American Association of Pediatrics for a professorial visit on pediatric immigrant health. The award, implemented through a partnership between CATCH and the Community Pediatrics Training Initiative, is designed to promote advocacy for children and advance the field of community pediatrics.
Dr. John Leonard, associate dean of clinical research, the Richard T. Silver Distinguished Professor of Hematology and Medical Oncology, and a professor of medicine, won the 2017 Miriam G. Wallach Award for Excellence in Humanistic Medical Care from NewYork-Presbyterian. The award recognizes a physician who displays exceptional dedication in providing outstanding and compassionate patient-centered care and exemplifies altruistic and humanistic qualities. Dr. Leonard received his award Oct. 19 at the NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center Physician of the Year awards ceremony.
Dr. Jonathan Zippin, assistant professor of dermatology, was named to the American Contact Dermatitis Society’s Board of Directors for a three-year term ending in 2020. The society aims to promote, support, develop and stimulate information about contact dermatitis and occupational skin disease.
Simone Elder, a fourth-year medical student, won the Franklin C. McLean Award from National Medical Fellowships (NMF) and a scholarship from the National Alumni Council. The Franklin C. McLean Award is awarded to a fourth-year, underrepresented minority student who demonstrates outstanding academic achievement, plus leadership and potential for distinguished contributions to medicine. The council scholars are chosen for their achievements and exemplary community service, leadership and dedication to serving the underserved. Elder received her award in November at the Association of American Medical Colleges’ annual meeting in Boston.
