Awards and Honors Across Weill Cornell Medicine - Week of Sept. 9 - Sept. 16

Dr. Roy Gulick, chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases, the Rochelle Belfer Professor in Medicine and a professor of medicine, was named chair of the National Institutes for Health Office of AIDS Research Advisory Committee. The committee provides advice to the director of the Office of AIDS Research on planning, coordination and evaluation of research and other activities in respect to HIV/AIDS conducted or supported by the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Gulick was appointed chair by the Secretary of Health and Human Services, Sylvia Mathews Burwell.

Dr. Arash Salemi, an associate professor of cardiothoracic surgery, in May was appointed president of the New York Society for Thoracic Surgery. The society encourages investigations of the physiology and pathology of the thorax and its contents; stimulates the study of the etiology, symptomatology, pathology and treatment of diseases affecting the thorax and its contents; and disseminates such knowledge. Dr. Salemi previously served as the society’s vice president.
