Dr. O. Wayne Isom, the Terry Allen Kramer Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery and a professor of cardiothoracic surgery, in April was honored with the New York Society of Thoracic Surgeons’ Lifetime Achievement Award. The society encourages investigations of the physiology and pathology of the thorax and its contents; stimulates the study of the etiology, symptomatology, pathology and treatment of diseases affecting the thorax and its contents; and disseminates such knowledge. The society celebrated Dr. Isom’s career and contributions to the field of cardiothoracic surgery April 28 in New York City.
Dr. Brooke Spector, an instructor in pediatrics, was selected for the Academic Pediatric Association’s Educational Scholars Program. The Educational Scholars Program, which is offered to members of the association who wish to earn a Certificate of Excellence in Educational Scholarship, aims to assist pediatric educators in developing themselves as productive, advancing and fulfilled faculty members, and to increase the quality, status and visibility of pediatric educators in academia. Selectees are expected to complete the full curriculum over three to four years, which includes didactic sessions, self-directed learning activities, development of an educator portfolio, and a mentored project. Dr. Spector is enrolled in the program from 2016 through 2019.
