Dr. Joseph Fins, chief of the Division of Medical Ethics, the E. William Davis, Jr. Professor of Medical Ethics and a professor of medicine, of healthcare policy and research, of medicine in psychiatry, and of medical ethics in neurology, in June was awarded the Dr. Mary Ann Quaranta Distinguished Palliative Care Ethicist Award by the Collaborative for Palliative Care. The award honors distinguished service to the community in palliative care. At the Collaborative for Palliative Care's Interdisciplinary and Interfaith Conference About Palliative and End of Life Care, hosted June 6-7 in White Plains. Dr. Fins presented the Reva Greenberg Lecture, titled, "The Minimally Conscious State and Human Rights: Towards a Neuro-Palliative Care Agenda."
Dr. Jared Knopman, an assistant professor of neurological surgery, won the 2016 Young Heart Award at the American Heart Association's Young Professionals of NYC Red Ball, hosted May 13 in New York. The American Heart Association recognized Dr. Knopman for his work as an advocate for heart health and for his pioneering work in new approaches to treating stroke. The Young Professionals, all younger than 40, provide heart health education and support to young adults.
