Dr. John Barnhill, a professor of clinical psychiatry and of medical ethics in clinical medicine, has won an American Psychoanalytic Association Edith Sabshin Teaching Award for 2015, which he accepted Jan. 15 at the association's national meeting in New York. Founded in 1911, the American Psychoanalytic Association is the oldest national psychoanalytic organization in the nation seeking to establish and maintain high educational and professional standards. The award, named for the former Secretary of the Association Edith Sabshin, recognizes teachers who have made outstanding contributions in their efforts to educate students who are not training to be psychoanalysts. The annual award recognizes up to 10 educators who are recommended by their local societies and institutes for outstanding service in education.
Dr. Joseph Fins, chief of the Division of Medical Ethics, the E. William Davis, Jr. Professor of Medical Ethics and a professor of medicine, of healthcare policy and research, of medicine in psychiatry, and of medical ethics in neurology, was in February appointed to the international editorial board of Springer Press' Advances in Neuroethics book series. The upcoming series will address how advances in brain sciences can benefit patients and society at large.
