Dr. Olga Boudker, a professor of physiology and biophysics, received the Biophysical Society's Michael and Kate Bárány Award for Young Investigators during the society's national meeting, which took place from Feb. 27 – March 2 in Los Angeles. The award recognizes a scientist who has made an outstanding contribution to biophysics and has not yet achieved the rank of full professor at the time of nomination. The society honored Dr. Boudker for her "dynamic research that has led to a deeper understanding of the structural, thermodynamic and kinetic aspect of secondary active transport and critically contributed to our understanding of the sodium-coupled transport of amino acids and monoamines."
Dr. Richard Kogan, a clinical professor of psychiatry, has received the 2016 Joan and Stanford Alexander Award in Psychiatry. The award, given by Baylor College of Medicine, honors a mental health professional who has made significant contributions in research, education and clinical or community service for people suffering from severe and persistent mental illness. Dr. Kogan received his award and presented grand rounds on April 6 with his lecture "Creative Genius and Psychiatric Illness."
