Dr. Curtis Cole, chief information officer, an associate professor of clinical medicine, and associate professor of clinical healthcare policy and research, was in February appointed a member of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's Healthcare Information Technology Research Study Section for a three-year term. The agency seeks to produce data that leads directly to making healthcare safer, higher quality, more accessible, equitable, and affordable. The study section reviews research and conference grant applications for projects that seek to develop, apply and evaluate technologies relevant to healthcare.

Dr. Bruce Schackman, the Saul P. Steinberg Distinguished Professor of Healthcare Policy and Research, a professor of healthcare policy and research, a professor of healthcare policy and research in medicine, and a professor of healthcare policy and research in psychiatry, was elected a member of the College on Problems of Drug Dependence on Jan. 29. The group, the longest standing in the United States to address problems of drug dependence and abuse, seeks to promote scientific discoveries in addictive diseases as well as inform legislators about their implications for public policy, benefits to society and the need for continued advancement of science and education on addictive diseases. Members must have a terminal degree in their field, have authored multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals, and be recommended by at least two sponsors.
