Dr. Peter Schlegel, chairman of urology, the James J. Colt Professor of Urology, and a professor of urology and reproductive medicine, gave the Royal Society of Medicine's Winsbury White Lecture on Oct. 23 in London. The lecture was established in 1963 with the Royal Society of Medicine and is given every two years. The society is one of England's major providers of postgraduate medical education, catering to doctors, dentists, veterinary surgeons, students, and allied healthcare professionals.
Dr. Marco Seandel, an assistant professor of cell and developmental biology in surgery, of cell and developmental biology, and of medicine, has won the 2016 Irma T. Hirschl/ Monique Weill-Caulier Trust Award. The trust award supports talented biomedical scientists who are committed to careers in academic research, exhibit an exceptional potential for high-quality, productive research, and work at one of six academic medical centers in New York. Dr. Seandel has been awarded $35,000 over the next five years to study the mechanism by which the risk of congenital heart disease in children is influenced by genetic mutations that occur in the sperm of older fathers.
