Dr. Neera Gupta, an associate professor of pediatrics, was the course director for the third annual Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Research Day, which attracted more than 80 specialists from across the United States, Canada, and Australia. The goal of the meeting, hosted by Weill Cornell Medicine on Sept. 18, was to bring together pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition specialists to identify gaps in knowledge in pediatric IBD, foster research collaborations, and generate ideas for future research studies.

Dr. David Lyden, the Stavros S. Niarchos Professor in Pediatric Cardiology and a professor of pediatrics and of cell and developmental biology, chaired the Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Oncológicas' annual meeting hosted Sept. 28 - Sept. 30 in Madrid, Spain. The center's goal is to foster translation of scientific breakthroughs into innovative and more effective ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. This year's conference focused on recent progress in understanding how metastasis is initiated and the molecular mechanisms underlying early events in metastatic progression.

Dr. Brendon Stiles, an associate professor of cardiothoracic surgery, was appointed to the Lung Cancer Research Foundation's Medical Advisory Board, effective Sept. 15. Additionally, Dr. Stiles will serve as vice chair of the foundation's Scientific Advisory Committee. The Lung Cancer Research Foundation's mission is to improve and save lives by funding groundbreaking research for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure of lung cancer.
