Dr. Barbara L. Milrod, a professor of psychiatry, received the American Psychiatric Association's Distinguished Psychiatrist Award for outstanding achievement in the field of psychiatry as an educator, researcher and clinician. In addition to the award, Dr. Milrod gave the Distinguished Psychiatrist Lecture titled "The Role of Psychodynamic Treatments in Anxiety Disorders: A Relatively Neglected Area" at the association's annual meeting on May 18 in Toronto.

Dr. Susana Morales, an associate professor of clinical medicine and an assistant professor of medicine, received the Society of General Internal Medicine Elnora M. Rhodes SGIM Service Award on April 25 at the society's annual meeting in Toronto. This award is given annually to a member of the society who has demonstrated extraordinary service to the organization and its mission to lead excellence, change and innovation in clinical care, education and research in general internal medicine.

Dr. Jeffrey Perlman, a professor of pediatrics, was the keynote speaker during the 34th Priorities in Perinatal Care Conference hosted in March in Drakensberg, South Africa. His talk was titled "Gaps in the Guidelines — Where Should Research be Directed?" This annual conference is limited to 200 attendees and welcomes physicians from around the world to focus on a wide variety of topics relevant to perinatal care.

Dr. Timothy Vartanian, a professor of neurology and of neuroscience, was appointed to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Southern New York Chapter's Board of Directors and named Chair of the Clinical Advisory committee. The chapter is committed to advancing the society's mission of helping people living with multiple sclerosis, with emphasis on assisting the 12,000 patients in the five boroughs and Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Orange and Sullivan counties.
