Dr. Cheguevara Afaneh, an instructor in surgery, won second place in the Top Gun Competition sponsored by the Society for Laparoscopic Surgeons in September. Top Gun tests surgeons’ videoscopic skills and is designed to simulate the pressures of the operating room in a fun and competitive way.

Anesthesiology residents Dr. June Chan and Dr. Zachary Turnbull were awarded the NewYork Weill Cornell Medical Center Alumni Council’s Distinguished Housestaff Award on Nov. 13. An association for healthcare professionals at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, the council recognizes exceptional housestaff from each department every year for all-around excellence.

Dr. Brendan Finnerty, a third-year general surgery resident, and Dr. Daniel Fish, a fourth-year general surgery resident, both received Resident Teacher of the Year, 2013-2014 awards from the surgical clerkship program for all of their efforts for leading the clerkship teaching sessions.
