Anelia Apostolova-Karp, a physician assistant in the Department of Surgery, was recognized this summer in the category of Excellence in NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center’s “Applaud a Teammate” program, an internal recognition program.
Dr. James Gallagher, an assistant professor of surgery, and the William Randolph Hearst Burn Center team at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center won a hospital-wide competition to build an innovative burn unit that integrates the latest technology to improve patient care.
Dr. Katherine Gray, a second-year resident in general surgery, was awarded the eighth annual Chief Residents Outstanding Intern Award by the graduating chief resident class of 2014 in June in recognition of her outstanding qualities as a general surgeon of the future.
Dr. Fabrizio Michelassi, chariman of the Department of Surgery and the Lewis Atterbury Stimson Professor of Surgery, was an invited lecturer at the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation Long Island Chapter on Sept. 21 and discussed "Surgery as Part of a Treatment Plan." The foundation funds cutting-edge studies at major medical institutions, nurtures investigators at the early stages of their careers and finances underdeveloped areas of research in an effort to cure Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and to improve the quality of life with patients affected by these diseases.
