Dr. Cheguevara Afaneh, an instructor of surgery, was awarded the 13th annual Hassan Naama, M.B., B.Ch. Memorial Resident Award from the Department of Surgery in June in recognition of his commitment to mentoring junior residents.
Dr. Soumitra R. Eachempati, a professor of surgery, was appointed chair of the American College of Surgeons’ Applicant Interviews Committee for Manhattan. The college is a scientific and educational association of surgeons founded to improve the quality of care for the surgical patient by setting high standards for surgical education and practice. The committee is tasked with evaluating membership applications for credentials in education and training, professional qualifications, surgical competence, and ethical conduct.
David Fehling, the program manager for general surgery, received the fifth annual Golden Apple Award in June from the Department of Surgery in recognition of his exceptional contributions to its residency programs.
Dr. Norman Lee, a resident in the department of Psychiatry, was selected as the September Resident Award winner during NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital's Amazing People Recognition Campaign. The award was presented at the department's Sept. 26 meeting.
