Dr. Donald D'Amico, chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology, the John Milton McLean Professor of Ophthalmology, the Betty Neuwirth Lee and Chilly Professor in Stem Cell Research and professor of ophthalmology, received a Lifetime Achievement Honor Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology on June 1. The award, which is given annually, recognizes ophthalmologists who have made significant contributions to the field as well as to the academy and its scientific and educational programs.
Dr. Sabine Ehrt, professor of microbiology and immunology, was appointed editor of Infection and Immunity, a journal published by the American Society for Microbiology. The journal reports key discoveries that help clinicians and researchers gain new insights into the underlying mechanisms of host-pathogen interactions and develop novel strategies to prevent or treat infectious diseases.
Dr. Ana Krieger, associate professor of medicine in clinical neurology, associate professor of clinical genetic medicine and associate professor of clinical medicine, was selected to chair the American Academy of Sleep Medicine's Sleep Deprivation section, which explores the effects of reduced sleep duration on behavior and physiology. The group studies various causes of sleep deprivation, including experimentally-induced deprivation as well as the effects of sleep disorders that restrict or disrupt sleep.
