Awards and Honors

Dr. Richard Granstein, chairman of the Department of Dermatology and the George W. Hambrick, Jr. Professor of Dermatology, was appointed president for the Association for Psychoneurocutaneous Medicine of North America. The association is comprised of dermatologists, psychiatrists, psychologists and allied health professionals dedicated to promoting the awareness of psyche and skin interaction and the role of psychoneuroimmunology in skin diseases.

Dr. David P. Hajjar, the Frank H.T. Rhodes Distinguished Professor of Cardiovascular Biology and Genetics, professor of biochemistry and professor of pathology and laboratory medicine, was selected as a Jefferson Fellow by the U.S. Department of State. The fellowship program is funded by the National Academy of Sciences and is open to tenured, or similarly ranked, faculty from U.S. institutions of higher learning who are U.S. citizens. Selected Jefferson Science Fellows spend one year on assignment at the U.S. Department of State or USAID as science advisors on foreign policy issues. Assignments are tailored to the needs of the hosting office, while taking into account the fellows' interests and areas of expertise. As part of their assignments, Jefferson Fellows also have the opportunity to travel to U.S. embassies and missions overseas.

Dr. Joseph Jorizzo, adjunct professor of dermatology, delivered the first endowed Jeffrey P. Callen Dermatology Lecture at the University of Louisville School of Medicine on March 4. The lectureship, named for Jeffrey P. Callen, and established by his wife Susan and a committee of alumni, celebrates Dr. Callen's 25 years as chief of Louisville's Division of Dermatology.
