Dr. Matthew E. Fink, chairman of the Department of Neurology, the Louis and Gertrude Feil Professor in Clinical Neurology and professor of clinical neurology, and Dr. Joseph Safdieh, vice chairman of neurology for education and associate professor of neurology (education), were elected as fellows of the American Neurological Association on April 1. The American Neurological Association is a professional society of academic neurologists and neuroscientists devoted to advancing the goals of academic neurology; to training and educating neurologists and other physicians in the neurologic sciences; and to expanding both our understanding of diseases of the nervous system and our ability to treat them.
Dr. Roy M. Gulick, chief of the Division of Infectious Disease and professor of medicine, was elected to membership in the Association of American Physicians, a nonprofit, professional organization comprised of more than 1,300 active members and about 600 emeritus and honorary members. The goals of its members include the pursuit of medical knowledge, and the advancement through experimentation and discovery of basic and clinical science and their application to clinical medicine.
Dr. Warren D. Johnson Jr., co-director of the Center for Global Health, the B.H. Kean Professor of Tropical Medicine, professor of medicine and professor of clinical public health, will serve on the National Institutes of Health's Fogarty International Center International and Cooperative Projects Study Section. The center is dedicated to advancing the mission of the National Institutes of Health by supporting and facilitating global health research conducted by U.S. and international investigators, building partnerships between health research institutions in the U.S. and abroad, and training the next generation of scientists to address global health needs. The study section exclusively reviews applications for the Fogarty International Research Collaboration Award in Basic Biomedical Sciences and for the Fogarty International Center Global Research Initiative Program in Basic Biomedical Sciences.
Dr. Theodore H. Schwartz, professor of neurological surgery, professor of neurological surgery in otolaryngology and associate professor of neurological surgery in neurology, was named to the Journal of Neurosurgery's Editorial Board; the publication is the leading journal of neurosurgery in the world.
