Dr. Sunghee Cho, associate professor of neuroscience, has been selected to join the National Institutes of Health's Neural Oxidative Metabolism and Death Study Section at the Center for Scientific Review. Dr. Cho will make recommendations to the Institute's advisory council regarding grant applications. Dr. Cho's six-year term began July 16.
Dr. Mary Donohue, assistant professor of neuroscience, was a speaker at the seventh World Congress on Rett Syndrome hosted in New Orleans, La. in June. Her talk was entitled, "MeCP2 Interacting Proteins in Development and Rett Syndrome."
Dr. Jeffrey Fisher, professor of clinical medicine, is the recipient of Weill Cornell Medical College's Excellence in Teaching Award.
Dr. Ingrid Hriljac, assistant professor of clinical medicine, received the Council on Vascular Ultrasound 2012 Abstract Award for her presentation, "Prevalence and Clinical Correlates of Popiteal Artery Atherosclerosis in Young Adults: The Strong Heart Study," at the annual American Society of Echocardiography meeting on June 30.
Dr. Laura Kirkman, assistant professor of medicine, received the Hearst Foundation Clinical Scholarship in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases in July.
Dr. Meredith Lash-Dardia, assistant professor of clinical medicine, became a fellow of the American College of Physicians this month. The American College of Physicians is a national organization of internists — physicians who specialize in the prevention, detection and treatment of illnesses in adults.
Dr. Steven Markowitz, professor of medicine, participated in the American Heart Association Cardiac Electrophysiology Clinical Peer Review Study Group this year. He also chairs the Boston Scientific Corporation's Data Monitoring Committee and Zero-AF Study.
Dr. Irwin Nydick, clinical professor of medicine, was honored at the Department of Medicine's annual Residents Dinner with a newly-established endowed annual award that will be presented to the "voluntary attending that best demonstrates contributions to resident's professional development in the art of medicine." The inaugural award went to Dr. Barry Hartman, clinical professor of medicine. In addition, the 2012 class in medicine gave Dr. Nydick an inscribed award that "proudly recognizes Irwin Nydick, MD 'The Professor' for his tireless commitment to instilling in each of us a spirit of life-long learning and inspiring us to be the best clinicians we can be."
Dr. Joseph Safdieh, associate professor of neurology, is the course director for "Fibromyalgia — What's the Deal?" the first course available from NeuroLearn, the American Academy of Neurology's newest online learning program.
