Dr. Sharon Abramovitz, associate professor of clinical anesthesiology and associate professor of anesthesiology in clinical obstetrics and gynecology, will receive an Excellence in Teaching Award from Weill Cornell Medical College in June.
Dr. Nasser Altorki, professor of cardiothoracic surgery and the director of the Division of Thoracic Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center presented a lecture titled, "Lung Cancer: 2012," at the University of Pittsburgh Medical College. In addition, Dr. Altorki gave a presentation about the advances in minimally invasive options for gastroesophageal diseases at the first annual Peter D. Stevens Course on Interventional Innovations in Digestive Care at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell hosted April 26-27.
Dr. Eric Brumberger, an instructor in anesthesiology, was selected in April to receive an Excellence in Teaching Award from Weill Cornell Medical College in June.
Dr. David Calfee, associate professor of medicine and associate professor of public health, was elected to fellowship in the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America.
Dr. Frank Chervenak, the Given Foundation Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, received a University of Florida Dean's Award for teaching and research in obstetrics on May 4.
Dr. Robin Davisson, professor of cell and developmental biology, was the 2012 Honored Guest Speaker at the ninth annual Graduate Student Colloquium hosted at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center May 7. In February, Dr. Davisson was invited to join the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health as a standing member of its National Hypertension and Microcirculation Study Section. That same month, Dr. Davisson became a member of the review committee for the New York Academy of Sciences' 2012 Blavatnik Awards for Young Scientists.
Dr. Daniel Fitzgerald, associate professor of medicine, successfully competed for a K24 Mid-career Investigator Award in Patient-Oriented Research titled, "Global health research and training in HIV and tuberculosis."
Dr. Peter Fleischut, assistant professor of anesthesiology, and Dr. Gregory Kerr, associate professor of clinical anesthesiology, as well as colleagues from the Housestaff Quality Council received the 2011 John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Award in April. The award is one of the most prestigious national awards in quality and patient safety.
Dr. Hugh Hemmings, Distinguished Research Professor in Anesthetic Mechanisms, professor of anesthesiology and professor of pharmacology, was elected senior editor of the journal Anesthesiology in January. That same month, he became a new board member of the British Journal of Anaesthesia. In April, Dr. Hemmings was appointed the Distinguished Research Professor in Anesthetic Mechanisms in the Department of Anesthesiology at Weill Cornell. Dr. Hemmings is the first recipient of this endowed professorship.
Dr. William Holloman, professor of microbiology and immunology, was the keynote speaker of European Conference on Fungal Genetics in Marburg, Germany hosted March 30-April 2.
Dr. Sandra Hurtado, a postdoctoral associate in biostatistics, received a scholarship May 2 from the National Science Foundation's Division of Mathematical Sciences.
Dr. Wayne Isom, the Terry Allen Kramer Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery and the chairman of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, was recently selected as one of the American Heart Association's 20 Champions of Heart & Stroke. He will be honored June 19. Additionally, Dr. Isom served as debate co-chair at the Heart Valve Society of America and Society of Heart Valve Disease's fourth annual Scientific Session titled, "Valves in the Heart of the Big Apple VII: Evaluation & Management of Valvular Heart Diseases 2012," hosted April 11 - April 14 at the New York Marriott Marquis. He also co-chaired the debate titled, "A Surgeon is the Best Interventional Valvular Therapist."

Dr. Keith A. LaScalea, associate professor of clinical medicine, became the new director of the Atkins Foundation for Cardiometabolic Disease Curriculum this winter.
Anfei Li, an undergraduate student in biological and environmental engineering and a student in Dr. Robin Davisson's Cornell-Ithaca lab, was awarded the 2012 David S. Bruce Outstanding Undergraduate Abstract Award by the American Physiological Society in April.
Dr. Heinrich Lob, a research scientist in Dr. Robin Davisson's lab, was recognized January with a 2012 American Heart Association Scientist Development Grant. In April, He was honored with a 2012 Early Career Research Recognition Award by the American Physiological Society.
Dr. Lia Logio, the Herbert J. and Ann L. Siegel Distinguished Professor of Medicine, was elected to a three-year term on the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine Council March 7.
Dr. Xiaojing Ma, professor of microbiology and immunology and professor of microbiology and immunology in pediatrics, presented a seminar April 19 to the graduate students in the Infection Inflammation and Immunity track at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, titled "A Novel Regulatory Activity of the Crohn's Disease-associated Nucleotide-binding Oligomerization Domain (NOD) 2." That same day, he was selected for Weill Cornell's Excellence in Teaching Award.
Dr. Thangamani Muthukumar, assistant professor of medicine, was an invited speaker at the International Pediatrics Congress hosted in January in Mexico.
Dr. Crina Nimigean, associate professor in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, associate professor of biochemistry and associate professor of physiology and biophysics in anesthesiology, was elected to the Journal of General Physiology's Editorial Board in January.
Dr. Jean Pape, professor of medicine, served as co-chair of the French HIV/AIDS Conference in March.
Dr. Nikolaos Skubas, associate professor of anesthesiology, was appointed co-chair of the Annual Comprehensive Review and Update on Perioperative Echo, the largest world-wide annual meeting on perioperative echocardiography, for a five year term beginning this year. He also became a member of the writing committee of the American College of Cardiology Foundation/American Heart Association guidelines on Valvular Heart Disease this year.
Dr. Thomas Walsh, professor of medicine in microbiology and immunology, gave the keynote address on pediatric mycology at the Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases 2012 meeting March 21-25 in Fremantle, Australia. He was also named to the Journal of Infectious Diseases Editorial Advisory Board and was one of the top 5 percent of its reviewers.
Dr. Steven Wilson, associate professor of clinical medicine, was named director of quality improvement for the Weill Cornell Department of Medicine.
Dr. Colin Young, a postdoctoral associate in Dr. Robin Davisson's lab, was honored in April with the 2012 Trainee Research Recognition in Physiological Genomics by the American Physiological Society.
