Weill Cornell Medicine’s Celebration of Diversity, part of the institution’s sixth annual Diversity Week, was held on April 15. The awardees were honored for their commitment to diversity and inclusivity in academic medicine through exemplary contributions in mentorship, research, clinical care, community service and advocacy.

Of the 109 Weill Cornell Medical College students graduating in May, 107 garnered residencies, with 87 percent of them matching to top postgraduate residency specialty programs.

The program’s annual white coat ceremony celebrated the Class of 2026 and represented the start of the students’ new educational experience.

Dr. Sumit Gupta, a physician-scientist whose research focuses on vulnerable subpopulations of children with cancer, has been awarded the eighth annual Gale and Ira Drukier Prize in Children’s Health Research, Weill Cornell Medicine announced today. 

A historic investment from Board of Fellows member Israel Englander will advance Weill Cornell Medicine’s growing research enterprise and support critical initiatives throughout the institution. 

In her new role, Sheil will jointly lead the Office of External Affairs and oversee its more than 40-member Division of Communications and Public Affairs.

The Dean’s Symposium  on Innovation and Entrepreneurship, which took place Nov. 7, celebrated innovation and Weill Cornell Medicine’s entrepreneurial spirit.

Located one block from Weill Cornell Medicine’s main campus on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, the site will add approximately 200,000 square feet of dedicated research space. 

Garzio, a distinguished academic medicine administrator, will start her new role in early February.

The institution is expanding its real estate agreement at 575 Lexington Ave. to provide state-of-the-art clinical care at the Midtown Manhattan location by 2025.

The institution is constructing a modern new student residence that, when it opens in 2025, will expand the scope of the institution’s Upper East Side campus and nearly double the existing student residential living space.

For the sixth consecutive year, Weill Cornell Medicine has been awarded the Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award by INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, which recognizes the institution’s exceptional commitment to diversity and inclusion.

An American Heart Association (AHA) Presidential Advisory, co-authored by a committee including the dean of Weill Cornell Medicine, outlines an ambitious plan to increase rigorous research on initiatives aimed at providing food as medicine for chronic conditions.

Dr. Harrington, a cardiologist and chair of the Department of Medicine at Stanford University, will begin his new position on Sept. 12.
