Dr. Phyllis August, the Ralph A. Baer Professor of Medical Research and a professor of medicine, of medicine in obstetrics and gynecology and of healthcare policy and research at Weill Cornell Medicine, received the 2016 Miriam G. Wallach Award for Excellence in Humanistic Medical Care on Sept. 8 during the Physician of the Year Event at Griffis Faculty Club. The award recognizes a physician who displays exceptional dedication in providing outstanding and compassionate patient-centered care and exemplifies altruistic and humanistic qualities.

Dr. Joseph Fins, chief of the Division of Bioethics, the E. William Davis, Jr., MD Professor of Medical Ethics and a professor of medicine, of medicine in psychiatry, of healthcare policy and research and of medical ethics in neurology was selected a 2016-17 fellow ambassador of the New York Academy of Medicine. As a fellow ambassador, Dr. Fins will work with academy staff and leadership as an expert spokesperson on a variety of health-related topics. He was selected based on his interest and ability as a spokesperson in his field of expertise, specifically bioethical issues in neuroscience. The fellow ambassador program was established in 2015 to increase direct engagement of fellows with the research and policy staff of the academy, and to provide the public with access to a wealth of healthcare information.
