Awards and Honors Across Weill Cornell Medicine – Week of Oct. 21 - Oct. 28

Dr. Leonard N. Girardi, O. Wayne Isom Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery and chairman and professor of cardiothoracic surgery, was honored on Sept. 2 by the American Association for Thoracic Surgery with the Top Performance Award of the Editorial Board for his outstanding performance as a reviewer for The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. The American Association for Thoracic Surgery is an international organization of more than 1,300 of the world’s foremost cardiothoracic surgeons who have made significant contributions to the care and treatment of cardiothoracic disease.

 

The William Randolph Hearst Burn Center, led by Director Dr. James Gallagher, associate professor of clinical surgery, was approved for three years of certification by the American Burn Association. To achieve verification, a burn center must meet American Burn Association standards for organizational structure, personnel qualifications, facilities resources and medical care services. The three-year term, which expires in April 2019, is the maximum term of certification awarded.
