Dr. Nathaniel Hupert, associate professor of medicine and associate professor of healthcare policy and research, received the Director’s Recognition Award from the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Hupert, who received the award on Sept. 23, was recognized for his role in the Health Economics Modeling Unit, which rapidly provided leadership with a comprehensive analysis of H7N9 strategies including airport screening, school closings, vaccination, anti-viral drugs, respiratory protective devices and mechanical ventilators. The center aims to prevent disease, disability and death caused by a wide range of infectious diseases.

Dr. Madhu Mazumdar, chief of the Division of Biostatistics and Epidemiology and professor of biostatistics in healthcare policy and research, was selected for the 2015 Eastern North American Region/International Biometric Society Spring Meeting program committee. The meeting is slated for March 15-18, 2015, in Miami, Fla. The international society advances biological science through the development of quantitative theories and the application, development and dissemination of effective mathematical and statistical techniques.
