Awards and Honors

Dr. B.J. Casey, director of the Sackler Institute for Developmental Psychobiology, the Sackler Professor of Developmental Psychobiology, professor of psychology in neuroscience and professor of psychology in psychiatry, was awarded an honorary doctoral degree from Utrecht University in recognition of her eminent achievements in psychology and neuroscience. The honorary degree will be conferred on March 26 at a ceremony in The Netherlands.

Dr. Edward C. Lai, assistant professor of ophthalmology, was appointed to the Allergan Dry Eye Advisory Board on Dec 2. The board is comprised of members of the medical industry who provide feedback for the global, multispecialty health care company.

Dr. Christopher Mason, assistant professor of physiology and biophysics and an assistant professor of computational genomics in computation biomedicine at the HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud Institute for Computational Biomedicine, won the 2013 Irma T. Hirschl/Monique Weill-Caulier Scholar Award on Oct 30. This award is presented annually to support clinically oriented medical research conducted at leading institutions. Winners are selected from all submitted proposals by a committee of distinguished physicians and investigators from six New York City medical colleges.

Dr. Rhonda Yantiss, professor of pathology and laboratory medicine, was elected president of the Rodger C. Haggitt Gastrointestinal Pathology Society. The society is an active group dedicated to emphasizing the importance of gastrointestinal pathology as a sophisticated and complex area of pathology, devising a registry for unusual cases and establishing referral centers or referral mechanisms for specific types of case problems.
